The Time Travelers Group · Habitus

People, places, and journeys across time.

Habitus is the engine behind The Time Travelers Group — and it's being built in public, in 90 days, on the way to BUILD with Mapbox 2026.

Mike Wallace is a transportation planner, data strategist, and founder of The Time Travelers Group (TTG), a consulting and technology firm focused on understanding how people, places, and stories interact across time. Over the course of his career, Mike has worked at the intersection of transportation planning, travel behavior analysis, accessibility modeling, community engagement, and geospatial analytics, helping agencies and organizations make more informed decisions through data-driven insight and human-centered design.

He founded The Time Travelers Group with the belief that planning should move beyond static forecasts and demographic averages to better understand the lived experiences, choices, and journeys that shape communities. TTG's mission is to bridge advanced analytics with human stories, creating tools and frameworks that help communities plan for resilient, connected, and thriving futures. Whether supporting regional transportation models, heritage preservation initiatives, or place-based storytelling platforms, TTG seeks to reveal the relationships between people, movement, and place.

At the core of TTG's work is Habitus, a behavioral intelligence framework that serves as the engine behind the firm's modeling and analytical approaches. Inspired by the concept that people's choices are shaped by the opportunities, constraints, routines, and environments that surround them, Habitus provides a structured way to understand how individuals interact with transportation networks, land use patterns, and community assets. Rather than treating travelers as abstract trips between origins and destinations, Habitus examines the context behind those decisions, enabling richer forecasts, more meaningful accessibility analysis, and planning outcomes that better reflect real-world behavior.

Together, TTG and the Habitus framework create a foundation for next-generation planning — one that combines rigorous data science, behavioral insight, and place-based understanding to help organizations navigate change and make better decisions for the future.
